EVENT 8 SNAIL CLIMBING
This was a difficult event because of two parts of the workout. The first was the snail.
WHAT THE SNAIL?
This is a huge drum packed with sandbags that had to be rolled by athletes. As the object is moved, the sandbags rolling the inside wall and then fall down. Therefore, the weight is not evenly distributed and it is virtually impossible to build any momentum. Moving the Snail is unpleasant and mentally crush
MAT FRASER :. BRAINS AND BRAWN
Katrin Davídsdóttir commentator explained after the event that Mat had advised him to push the snail directly in the middle, because that would be also distribute the force and generate more power. He recently graduated with an engineering degree, and it shows the mentality and lively and targeted intelligence that applies to every single workout
- 3 rounds for time: .
- 500m berm run
- 2 ascents
- 40 ft Snail push
- 2 rope climbs
The another variation of this workout is that the strings have started above head height. This meant that athletes had to jump to catch the rope and climb the first few feet bowl. In this much then used their legs as well, but this has slowed and if they have misjudged the length, the rope would simply slide off their feet, as there was not enough length to lock properly .
This is how the athletes finished.
